For the next few weeks we are going to be examining what it means to be a biblical woman of God. Biblical womanhood isn’t a list of do’s and don’ts. It isn’t subsisting on the fluff and nonsense that so many of us have grown accustomed to. Biblical womanhood isn’t meant to make you “feel good” about how you are doing as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, or friend. In fact, going through this series might show you areas where you need a biblical check up, a diagnosis, and biblical medicine to heal so that you can strive to be the biblical woman God would have you to be.
A true biblical woman understands that the world in which she lives is counter-cultural to how she strives to live.
We realize that we live in a culture that does not recognize God’s right to rule, does not accept Scripture as the pattern for life, and is experiencing the consequences of abandoning God’s design for men and women.
Mankind as a whole does not want to allow God to rule over him. Scripture is looked upon as a “good book” with nice stories in it rather than the absolute Word of God. Worse are those who pick and choose what to follow rather than allowing the full Word of God to impact every aspect of their lives. A true biblical woman also recognizes that society is experiencing the consequences of rejecting God’s plan for men and women.
Proverbs 14:12, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Jeremiah 17:9, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Romans 3:10-12, As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Romans 3:18, There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Romans 8:5-7, For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
2 Timothy 3:16, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2 Peter 1:20-21, Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Living a counter-cultural life will be difficult. In many aspects, a true biblical woman will live in a manner that is opposite to the people and practices around her. When facing the battles and opposition of our culture, it is imperative to remember that it is not us who are being rejected. It is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and God’s Word who are being rejected. Our calling as true biblical women is to continue to point to Christ and to magnify Him in all His glory.
The framework of this series was taken from the True Woman Manifesto provided through Revive Our Hearts Ministry.
